Support a desperate girl to complete school… PDF Print E-mail

November 8, 2011

We get many requests for help from desperate girls. Currently I have 5 girls who desperately need to complete high school but their guardians want them to drop out of school because they say they have no money to pay their school fees. If you are able to, kindly please support these girls. For more information, please write Dr. Karambu Ringera at ringerambu@yahoo.com

- Example of Letter that Dr. Karambu often gets from many girls:

Dear Madam,

Let me first thank you for calling me. May the good Lord Almighty do you good. I hereby affirm that all I will write about my life is nothing but the truth. I wish to speak to you not only as a donor but also as a mother and a sister. I was born in 1990 as an only child to Mercy Kajuju and Iqbal Hussein. However my mum brought me up as a single mother and life was not a piece of cake. She had to struggle hard to give me a normal life like other kids. She often sold food on streets to earn a living. We lived from hand to mouth. She worked hard and enrolled me in a primary school. Times were hard and we would sometime ask around for help. Years of desperation went by and all we could do is hold on to life. In the year 2001 i returned home to find mum had taken ill in our small rented room in Makutano. I knew this was not going to be easy since i was only eleven and we had no money. Few weeks later my mum passed on at Meru general hospital where she was taken by good samaritans.

International Peace Initiatives - IPIPrisca Kagendo,B.A. Teaching (Science) & Counseling, Kenya Methodist University (KEMU), 2011
September 10, 2011:

I wish you could have heard the joy in Prisca’s voice on the day of her college graduation! Prisca’s life has been transformed through education. A “total orphan” (both parents passed) since age 15, she was forced to leave high school to support her three sisters and one brother. IPI helped Prisca complete high school, then we sent her to KEMU. Her story is featured in the film, Education Is Hope! (see below). Prisca now teaches science at a prestigious girls’ high school. She supports her youngest sister in high school, her brother going to electrician school, another sister and the sister’s child. She is applying for a master’s degree in environmental science. Prisca would like to study in the U.S. Meantime, she counsels young women like her to work hard and pursue their dreams. Ann & Mark Kessel helped sponsor Prisca.
